In this webinar, we will explore key surgical dental extraction techniques, focusing on three main procedures: elevation, luxation, and periosteal elevation.

Elevation: Applying controlled rotational force over a period of time.
This stretches ligament fibres, which takes time. Do not use rapid or forced levering movements. Elevation puts more strain on tooth roots and bone than luxation. There is a risk of tooth and bone fracture, especially if the instrument is rotated forcefully or quickly. Elevation is ideal for thicker or stronger roots & combines effectively with luxation on other roots if used with care.

Luxation: Working a thin, sharp blade into the periodontal ligament space to cut ligament.
Luxation is a more precise technique than elevation and the blades are thinner and sharper. It is ideal for thinner or weaker roots & combines effectively to complement elevation.

Periosteal elevation: Lifting a gingival flap from the alveolar bone, before removing bone overlying the tooth root.
A combination of sharp leading edge, rounded curves and angled sides, to make lifting a gingival flap fast and simple.
Periosteal elevation is essential for raising muco-periosteal (gingival) flaps before surgical extraction.
1. Incise the gingiva to form the flap of your choice.
2. Insert the blade under the gingiva, pressing down onto the bone & work the blade from side to side to lift the periosteum from the bone.
3. Gently lift the instrument to peel the periosteum away from the bone.

Target Group:

This is a Webinar for veterinary professionals loooking to refine their extraction techniques and boost dental confidence in practice.

Seminar Objective:

The objective of this seminar is to provide participants with a clear understanding of key surgical dental extraction techniques — including elevation, luxation, and periosteal elevation — enabling them to perform extractions more effectively, safely, and with minimal trauma to surrounding tissues. Participants will learn when and how to apply each technique appropriately, and how to combine them for optimal clinical outcomes.
